2012 Street Dancing Competition, What The Hell Happened?

I really wanted to give you guys some pictures of this year's Street Dancing Competition but I was only fortunate enough to get a few pictures before chaos consumed Rizal Avenue. All of a sudden, people filled the street and went rushing down Rizal Avenue because the street dancers were doing their dancing somewhere near Central School.

The NSTP students who were barricading the people stopped barricading and they all kinda went to where the dancers were. Obviously, that resulted to more people filling the street. At that time, I asked myself, what the hell was happening? As far as I know, the street dancers were going to pass by the length of Rizal Avenue.

Well they did pass by but it was more like they were simply transferring from one performance area, near Central School, to another performance area, infront of the main stage. The only group of street dancers that did dance all the way to the main stage was from Paaralang Pag-ibig at Pag-asa. Those kids were awesome.

Anyway, I was able to take a few pictures and you can view them below along with some commentaries.

The 2012 Street Dancing Competition started with a special participation from these kids. They danced their way to the main stage. Yes, the steps are not very elaborate but the fact that they made the effort to dance all the way was very admirable. I don't think they were an official entry but that didn't stop them from putting-up a show.

As you can see from the pictures above, that part of Rizal Avenue was wide open. The people were patiently waiting from both side of the street. There shouldn't be any people on the center island of Rizal Avenue. Early that afternoon, police officers were stopping people from going there. I guess, they got tired of doing their job that they just let them do what they want.

Yehey, I'm finally going to see some street dancing... hmmm... I guess not. The street dancers just went pass everyone. Last year was the same, the street dancers didn't do any street dancing except in front of the main stage. After dancing in front of the main stage, they will march one block and disperse into the crowd. WOW!

There was some activity happening a little further down Rizal Avenue and some people noticed it so they were all kinda looking towards that direction. As you can see, some people even started to fill the street looking at that direction.

By this time, I was satisfied by just seeing the performers pass by in their colorful costumes. I wasn't expecting anymore street dancing because their next dance will be at the main stage. The street also became tighter with more people moving down to where the street dancers were dancing.

People finally realized they were not going to see any street dancing and, by this time, they already know what was happening down the street. As expected, they all filled the street and went to where the street dancers were performing. The NSTP students who were barricading the people were gone. You'll find them mingling with the crowd already.

The NSTP students were then instructed to barricade and seal-off the portion of Rizal Avenue that was near BDO to stop more people from potential blocking the street dancers when they transfer to the main stage. The street dancers were performing near UCPB and a lot of people went there.

After the street dancers perform in that enclosed area near UCPB and Central School, the barricade that was sealing the street is opened to let the street dancers pass. Again, they were just passing by. No, they were not doing any dancing. Their next dance will be in-front of the main stage.

After that I just sat my ass down the gutter and decided to simply go home. Squirming through the crowd was the only option left for me and I'm not going to do it. The way the organizers handled the street dancing competition was f*cked-up. Why can't they just let the street dancers dance on the street? Why have two separate areas when the entire street can be their stage?

The people who came to see the street dancing competition wants to see some street dancing. If you limit the dancing in two separate areas then everyone will simply flock to it and that is exactly what had happened. Those who were waiting on each side of the street all marched down to where the street dancers were dancing. Can you blame them for wanting to see some street dancing?

Our city has been doing this for many years and each year there is less and less street dancing. Yeah, the foreign tourists and VIPs are getting what they came to see. How? Well, they have their own special area near the main stage. That's nice and all but what about the ordinary folks who spent what little they have to see the street dancing competition?

As far as I know, these events are for everyone and not just the few but, what's happening is, only a few people are getting to enjoy it. If you are not a VIP then you'll have to fight your way through the crowd just to get a few glimpse of the performances.

A few years ago, I remember someone saying, "it's street walking not street dancing". Guess what, this someone is now a City Councilor and he can't even do squat about this very small problem that's been haunting the street dancing competition every year. In fact, I feel like its getting worst. Arggh!

Anyway, below is a video of the recently concluded Street Dancing Competition. It was taken by Mr. Jerry Alanguilan at one of the performance area which was near Central School. I think it was before a lot of people flocked down the street to get there. Thanks Jerry for the uploading the video in YouTube.

The video below shows the performance by the street dancers from Laguna College. I believe this was taken in-front of the main stage because I don't see the overpass in the background. Thanks for uploading.

The next video shows the performance of the dancers from San Pablo Colleges. This one was taken near Central School/UCPB area. I know because I can see the office of Celestron Cable and the stage on the parking lot of UCPB. Thanks for uploading.

Well, the next one is just a dress rehearsal by the street dancers from LSPU. Thanks for uploading.
