PHILPOST Celebrates 3rd National Writing Day At SM City San Pablo (Press Release)

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) in partnership with the Department of Education,Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino and SM Supermalls recently had the 3nd National Letter Writing Day with this years’ theme “Dear next president” following the announcement of three Presidential candidates for the May 2016 national election.  The nationwide letter-writing campaign is said to be participated by about 50,000 students in celebration of the “World Post Day” held last October 09 at selected SM Supermall branches all over the country.

World Post Day is celebrated every 9th of October annually, to coincide with the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital of Berne. Its main purpose is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries.

PHLPost's primary activity to celebrate this day is the National letterwriting Day (NLWD) with the theme "Dear Next President", which is expected to provide a venue for the Filipino youth to express themselves by engaging in letter writing activities that will not just communicate but touch lives.

"With the 2016 election fast shaping up, we would like to encourage the youth, though they are not yet eligible to participate in the electoral process, to express his or her thoughts and hopes for the next president of the country through a letter," Postmaster General Josie Dela Cruz said.

PHLPost will compile all the letters and hopefully, will be able to present this to the next elected president of the Philippines. Together with thousands of participating youth, the corporation further hopes that the president will take time to look and consider the ideals and recommendations embodied in their letters.

Here in SM City San Pablo , around 265 students from Laguna College, Canossa college, San Pablo Colleges and SPC  National Highschool actively participated. Ms. Odith Cadano, Senior Marketing Specialists of Philpost Region 4 said that their forefront advocacy is to revive the art of letter writing by having events like this. PHLPost officials continue to believe that nothing else cultivates romance, nurtures friendship, or helps one stay connected like a hand-written card or letter received at the post office. (nwr)
